It's beeeeeen a while, but i'm back.

This podcast is an interview I conducted at a lovely parrilla called el Des Nivel in the San Telmo area of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The subjects of today's podcast are Lucy Cousins and Kristie Robinson, the founders and editors of the Argentimes.

The interview is about 12 mins. long and took place 8.18.2006 in a resturant over wine and steak amongst the students and staff of The TEFLocal Immersion Programme.

In Buenos Aires there is a barrio or neighbourhood, which although it is a bit away from the centre of the city has, thanks to its beautiful buildings, sufficient character of its own to be taken into account at the moment of choosing lodgings. Specifically if and when we are talking about longer stays.

Caballito is in many respects very similar to the residential district of Belgrano, located in the central eastern part of the city. It lacks nothing and has nothing to envy any other part of town in regards to services. To stay or live in Caballito is an attractive option for anyone.
Its tree shaded Avenidas and streets is the perfect frame for its old well conserved patrician apartment buildings that have been totally renovated in order to offer all modern comforts to those new generation that live in them today.

The Avenida Pedro Goyena and the streets that cross it make up the heart of the best residential area in Caballito. Puán, Miró, Emilio Mitre and Víctor Martínez are but a few of the neighbouring beautiful streets. The Avenida Rivadavia offers a very fluid connection with the central parts of the city and is also one of the main commercial streets in the city.

To get to Caballito one can use one of the "colectivos" from the port part of the city, or else the Underground or subway on Avenida Rivadavia or else also the rail tram of the Sarmiento line.

The internet´s most popular video blog is going through some changes and while it is mostly 3 minutes of nonsense, its wacky antics will be missed. Today, they wrote a message, to quote here... *** monday 7_17 is rendering, ETA: 10:15 am EST *** This is BAD news. I think perhaps they are losing thousand of viewers today as last week most viewers gave them the benefit of the doubt.

1. Amanda (Rocketboom) unboomed like Fonzi jumped the shark. While the actor that played the fonz went on to have a career, the show, happy days died. When a show "unbooms" I think that this could find its way into the Global lexicon, I may have to consult Bill Bryson or your comments for that one, but I think it works. What do you say?

Amanda unboomed... what will happen now¿, is she the show, is that other guy (Andrew, the creator)? We can only wait. And I selfishly do not want to wait anymore today, well the real reason is that I have to go to work for 10 hours.

I used to write this before 9am, so that I would have time to catch The Boom everyday after my post, it´s easier on my sleeping schedule and I can comment on the show, their insight, and tags.

All this because as of today, I see that I will have to wait, sometimes for a few days, and sometimes for a mere hour and half, perhaps the show will flounder and fail, in any case, I will now blog write after the boom.

"Barbaro" is a word we use all the time in Argentina.

¿Te gusta la comida?
Si, es barbaro.

However, as much as I hear this commonly used word here, I see bullshit on the internet about some horse with the same name, "Barbaro."

I mean, this is in the headlines all the time. Grown-up news channels. Is this for real?

Yahoo, CNN, etc. American media outlets that somehow think the world cares about some horse that won a race and lost another. I never did get around to seeing that one movie with the kid who plays Spiderman in it, this story reeks of the same stink.

Now, how about the human jockey that rode Barbaro when it fell? Does he need economic support? I think these are better questions than, did the horse have a good night?

Was he sleepy? Whiny? Horesy? (who is asking these questions, the journalists 7 year olds?)
Will he get better, worse, good night, bad, should Cheney take him hunting? Good lord.

If the mass media wants to push stories on us when real news is happening, I think the blogosphere will surely cut their empire faster than anyone thought.

By the way if you ever go to the track in Buenos Aires, it is somewhat elegant and affordable depending on your bets, but they do not sell liquor there.

But check it out. There is always another horse to run another race, and that is quite "barbaro."

HERE is some more lunfardo for you...

Lunfardo, spoken in Buenos Aires, is typically the tongue of the poor immigrants in Buenos Aires, who mixed Spanish grammar with their native tongue. Although it cannot be considered widely understood or a mayor "Argentinean dialect", a lot of words from lunfardo have slipped into normal Argentinean use. A peculiar element in the Lunfardo slang is that some words are pronounced with inverted syllables: tango then becomes gotán, mujer becomes jermu, pagar is garpar, pedazo is zopeda and so on. If you want to read more about Lunfardo, try "Nuevo Diccionario Lunfardo" from José Gobello, or "Ché Boludo", an small English-language introduction written by James Bracken.

¿Castellano or Español?

An ever recurring questions among students of Spanish is wether in Argentina they speak "Español" or "Castellano". "Castellano" was originally the dialect of the Castilla region in Spain, where the crown was seated. Talking "Castellano" meant talking "the king´s" Spanish. Nowadays the two terms mean EXACTLY the same, though people might have their own definition of terms. In Argentina, most people will refer to "Spanish from Spain" with "Español", while they consider themselves talking "Castellano".

If ship leaves from Virgina going 30 knots with high winds blowing eastward, how much time does a package take to reach the first port of Spain?

Ask Fed Ex. Or simply know that they will charter commercial airline cargo space to get package their the swiftest and would bother with a cargo ship. This improved time efficiently is acheived with... technology.

So the romantic idea of travelling by boat to Europe and South America is not what it used to be. The grinding gears of masculinity and heavy steal put together by hard working men... right?

Nope. The ship is burning the arcane fuel of diesel probaley bought from the mid east which came over on Scandinavian ships powered by Asian technology. The workers are probabley from all sorts of countries and I bet that their are a few women on the crew or working the ports where they heavey handed die hards collect govnerment checks which they can cash at an ATM or use to but things off of ebay from the middle east, Denmark, or even big baby China herself.

So what does technology have to do with Virginia? What does the Pentagon have to do with war? What does the state motto have to do with anything? Everything?

So where does this post lead us and where are we headed as a culture? Well as George Washington used the technology of his day and did indeed have wooden teeth, you can expect the state of his birthright to continue along these lines, think big, whilst sending official email communications and perpetuating envirnomental damage in the name of commerce and killing off (Papilio glaucus linne) and dreams of wille mcgee that cardinal, perhaps even sometimes called the state bird.

Brazil 1, the other team (Croatia) ... losers.

Croatia didn't have a chance as far as the world was concerned, but they did pretty well. Much better than the US team for instance. You would have thought that Brail would have scored more as they got a 8 to 0 score earlier this month in another match, but the game was good on defense, a lot of shots, and exciting.

So I have always found the expression 1 is the lonliest number that you'll ever do... to be quite strange, but then in the context and pentameter of that one song it wraps around pretty nicely.

It kind of makes you want to watch a punk rocker breakdance eh?

That was the score in the opening match that the USA team recieved vs. the Czech republic. I work a a school across the street from the Czech republic and was ready to throw eggs. ( I heard the coach was upset, well I am upset that the coach is the coach, the team looked sallow and weak. Were they trying to hide behined the monsturous Czech players when a pass was made?

They only took 3 goal shots the whole game, hence they didn´t even try to win, at best they could have tied, what a pitifull effort

TITLE: The title of this post is regarding the 2-1 World Cup victory of first match played in Cote d’Ivoire.
SPORTS: Nadal is the only guy who can beat mister unbeatable, and beats him good.
Pac Man Mondays: TUNE IN every Monday (everyday really) and play Pac Man this Morning!

Here is a video I took at the 9 de Julio oblisko after I saw the game at the academy of Recoleta on a huge screen with about 40 friends.

Another note... about the game.

Nobody will remember the brave Ivorians who battled hard against the Argentinians when the World Cup is over. In the World Cup you have to create chances and score goals to be successful. Statistics will show that Cote d’Ivoire had a lot of the play but the bottom line is they lost the game.

This is alarming, but not surprising. I see this sort of behavior increasing drastically as the monetary rewards are quite alluring for the assailants. Well, the Australian guy is alive anyhow. The English guy had about 100 people walk past him until he died.

That´s F%%king terrible. It´s no surprise however as people that have money and goals will hardly let the decent thing stop thing in thier pursuits.

Do you know what the first cracker who climbed Everest about 50 years ago said about these rich bastards and their gortex courage?

Sir Edmund Hillary, who was on the team that first summitted Everest in 1953, called it "horrifying" that climbers would leave a dying man.

I agree. Also Everest has been done, I don´t see the point of it if the pioneering spirit has been conquered, Everest is well past the point of sloppy seconds, I mean even Sir Edmund had a sherpa guide go with him ascenting second. Thank god for those little fellas, otherwise our Aussie friend might have bit the big one, read more here.

Here´s some more good news about the sherpas who happen to live in the Himaylan region AND make ascent for the rich foreigners- passerbyers possible. Can you imagine these guys go there to improve the community or build it? No way, most just erode land, resources, and more frequently morals. Here´s that good news. The article is explains that because a local stripped naked on top of Everest and the authorities were looking into mountain climbing CODES he may have broke.

Man Alive! How about the 100 or so that decided not to help the dying, are these "church goers", "family men" or human beings at all, god... getting naked is great. That´s why I consider that little buddha dude a pioneer, and the real criminals the the wealthy lemmings who passed both the Australian and English men to die dead (freezing to their deaths no less) feet from the onward warpath... except in war people brave artillery for survivors. It appears most mountain climbers are too good for that, the aussie was saved by an American by the way, however I don´t know if any passed him on thier way to selfish glory.

There was a theory once that the traditional expatriate was becoming extinct, wiped out by rising costs and the difficulty of persuading dual-career couples to move, both at the same time, half way round the world. However, a new report from Mercer, a firm of consultants, suggests that the extinction theory is on hold. Expatriates are keeping international removals firms in business like never before: 44% of the multinational companies surveyed had increased the number of international assignments that they had sent people on over the past two years.

These expats, however, were not traditional in at least two important respects. One, they were sent on relatively short assignments that were measured in months rather than years. Today, such assignments, says the report's author, “are more likely to be perceived as an integral part of an employee's career development”. Secondly, many more of them were women. Women have increased from 8% of expatriate workers five years ago to 13% today. The increase has been particularly marked in Latin America.

Yesterday I was off to meet a doctor friend of mine who helped start www.talktime.com.ar at Swiss Medical Group for insurance and lo and behold, I had an English cab driver!

His English wasn't actually that good considering he moved to BsAs when he was a baby, but whoa baby! listen to what this man said in Spanish "I think that Brazil is going to win the World Cup, I am not stupid." He is also not Argentinian, I think ARG has a good shot at the cup, however, I would have to agree with that chap's comment completely, read a bbc article why... here.

Wow, wow, what an honor. The White House Correspondents' Dinner. To just sit here, at the same table with my hero, George W. Bush, to be this close to the man. I feel like I'm dreaming. Somebody pinch me. You know what, I'm a pretty sound sleeper, that may not be enough. Somebody shoot me in the face.

Is he really not here tonight? The one guy who could have helped.

By the way, before I get started, if anybody needs anything at their tables, speak slowly and clearly into your table numbers and somebody from the NSA will be right over with a cocktail.

Ladies and gentlemen of the press corps, Mr. President and first lady, my name is Stephen Colbert and it's my privilege tonight to celebrate our president. He's not so different, he and I. We get it. We're not brainiacs on the nerd patrol. We're not members of the "fact-inista." We go straight from the gut, right sir? That's where the truth lies, right down here in the gut. Do you know you have more nerve endings in your gut than you have in your head? You can look it up. I know some of you are going to say "I did look it up," and that's not true. That's because you looked it up in a book. Next time look it up in your gut. I did. My gut tells me that's how our nervous system works.

Every night on my show, "The Colbert Report," I speak straight from the gut, OK? I give people the truth, unfiltered by rational argument. I call it the no-fact zone. Fox News, I own the copyright on that term.

I'm a simple man with a simple mind, with a simple set of beliefs that I live by.

Number one, I believe in America. I believe it exists. My gut tells me I live there. I feel that it extends from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and I strongly believe it has 50 states. And I cannot wait to see how the Washington Post spins that one tomorrow.

I believe the government that governs best is the government that governs least. And by these standards, we have set up a fabulous government in Iraq.

I believe in pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps. I believe it is possible -- I saw this guy do it once in Cirque du Soleil. It was magical.

And though I am a committed Christian, I believe everyone has the right to their own religion, be it Hindu, Jewish or Muslim. I believe there are infinite paths to accepting Jesus Christ as your personal savior.

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe it's yogurt. But I refuse to believe it's not butter. Most of all I believe in this president. Now, I know there are some polls out there saying this man has a 32 percent approval rating. But guys like us, we don't pay attention to the polls. We know that polls are just a collection of statistics that reflect what people are thinking in "reality." And reality has a well-known liberal bias.

So, Mr. President, pay no attention to the people that say the glass is half full. Pay no attention to the people who say the glass is half empty, because 32 percent means it's 2/3 empty. There's still some liquid in that glass is my point, but I wouldn't drink it. The last third is usually backwash.

Folks, my point is that I don't believe this is a low point in this presidency. I believe it is just a lull, before a comeback. I mean, it's like the movie "Rocky." The president is Rocky and Apollo Creed is everything else in the world. It's the 10th round. He's bloodied, his corner man [is] Mick, who in this case would be the vice president, and he's yelling "Cut me, Dick, cut me," and every time he falls she says stay down! Does he stay down? No. Like Rocky, he gets back up and in the end he -- actually loses in the first movie. OK. It doesn't matter. The point is the heart-warming story of a man who was repeatedly punched in the face.

So don't pay attention to the approval ratings that say 68 percent of Americans disapprove of the job this man is doing. I ask you this, does that not also logically mean that 68 percent approve of the job he's not doing? Think about it. I haven't.

I stand by this man. I stand by this man because he stands for things. Not only for things, he stands on things. Things like aircraft carriers and rubble and recently flooded city squares. And that sends a strong message that no matter what happens to America, she will always rebound with the most powerfully staged photo ops in the world.

Now, there may be an energy crisis. This president has a very forward-thinking energy policy. Why do you think he's down on the ranch cutting that brush all the time? He's trying to create an alternative energy source. By 2008 we will have a mesquite-powered car.

And I just like the guy. He's a good joe. Obviously loves his wife, calls her his better half. And polls show America agrees. She's a true lady and a wonderful woman. But I just have one beef, ma'am. I'm sorry, but this reading initiative. I've never been a fan of books. I don't trust them. They're all fact, no heart. I mean, they're elitists telling us what is or isn't true, what did or didn't happen. What's Britannica to tell me the Panama Canal was built in 1914. If I want to say it was built in 1941, that's my right as an American. I'm with the president, let history decide what did or did not happen.

The greatest thing about this man is he's steady. You know where he stands. He believes the same thing Wednesday that he believed on Monday, no matter what happened Tuesday. Events can change, this man's beliefs never will.

And as excited as I am to be here with the president, I am appalled to be surrounded by the liberal media that is destroying America, with the exception of Fox News. Fox News gives you both sides of every story -- the President's side and the vice president's side. But the rest of you, what are you thinking, reporting on NSA wiretapping or secret prisons in Eastern Europe? Those things are secret for a very important reason -- they're super depressing. And if that's your goal, well, misery accomplished.

Over the last five years you people were so good over tax cuts, WMD intelligence, the effect of global warming. We Americans didn't want to know, and you had the courtesy not to try to find out. Those were good times, as far as we knew.

But, listen, let's review the rules. Here's how it works. The president makes decisions, he's the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Put them through a spell check and go home.

Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know, fiction.

That's Wisconsin speak. I would know, I wrote it and I am from Wisconsin. Wisconsin has so much to offer, but let's talk about Chicago, the reason my state has a tourism industry.

DID YOU KNOW?

That MAY DAY (2day) is really a holiday, yah hey... I know you are think, hay dare! And you should, you should also never start a sentence with the word And, but there is no real rule for it.

Kind of like the 8 glasses de agua a day thing. Yeah, no real studies.

...but this is not why I write 2nite. iwryteb/ciluvwrds. and Wisconsin, and earth, and travel. But mostly I just love days off from work. Like today, May 1st, 2006.

That's because about 120 year ago give or tahhhh... no that's right. Uhem, 120 years there was a big hullabaloo about workers rights in Chicago. It was about fairness, and taking your kids to the park, and working less, and freedom baby, freedom.

So what's up with that? I work at a school on the bottom of the Earth in Buenos Aires, and we have off, i'm the head admin so I say, but still... i almost forgot. My friend who just turned 25 said to me as I informed her of coming to work early in Monday me dijo, "LUNES!! estas jodiando?!" SO, all i really wanted to say without video, or a podcast, is that the history of May day should be remember and understood and that workers rights matter. Do you work? There you go... we all do (OR SHOULD, THERE IS SO MUCH INJUSTICE). Equal pay for equal play - just like the MLB guys in the late ninties, er, wait, that made me stop following professional baseball, but football... another story.
So I think strikes are good things in bowling and life, they give us a voice, like blogging, and vlogging, and after two pitchers and a spare in bowling, "whoo hoo" to history, May Day, Hay(dare)Market Square, and the city of Chicago who will be working it's ass off tomorrow as I go for a stroll in the park and try to find a wild dog to play with.

Brazil is now self suffient in Oil, oil hit $US75 a barrel yesterday, if you drive a car when you don't have to, you just might be a gasshole. John Perry Barlow: One cool cat.

I often read up on the future of the internet and where it is all leading. I think that with mobile technology, movments like FON, and Skype it's easy to see that in the future Google will be the dominate player and often catches your eye, but other things do too: Swarm intelligence, the open source community, the two Steves (Apple, Inc. founders) but where are the individuals? Where is th L. Ron Hubbard of it all, excuse me, LRH is simply a sci-fi writer, but not nearly as talented as PKD... uhem, in any case, where is the father of cyberspace? I think it might be this fellow below, John Perry Barlow.

I liked the fact that he wrote in his short biography that he wants to be remembered as a good ancestor, that is very cool. My ancestry lives in the Sioux blood of American soil and the rocks of Ireland, but so what, what am I going to do to make the world a better place? Only time can answer that, I hope to be remembered for something worthwile, I hope that you are too. John will.

John Perry Barlow is a former Wyoming rancher and Grateful Dead lyricist. He graduated in 1969 with High Honors in comparative religion from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.

More recently, he co-founded and still co-chairs the Electronic Frontier Foundation. He was the first to apply the term Cyberspace to the "place" it presently describes.

He has written for a diversity of publications, including Communications of the ACM, Mondo 2000, The New York Times, and Time. He has been on the masthead of Wired Magazine since it was founded. In June 1999, FutureBanker Magazine named him "One of the 25 Most Influential People in Financial Services He writes, speaks, and consults on a broad variety of subjects, particularly digital economy.

Believe it. The USA is supposed to be a metling pot, not a tossed salad of people "not really" mixing within their own communities dontcha' think? (read more about the largest March in Los Angeles history here at the LA Times.) ARTICLE 2

I find it surprising that local la police forces had no idea the march would be so big, "to serve and protect" the key word serve Authorities seem very reactionary to me in my multiple experiences with them and my view of them in the media. and there is cops...

I have this friend who tricked me once whilst in a traffic jam, he said, "man i guess all this traffic is becuase they are filming "cops" in town." " i exclaimed,"oh really!" "no." was his answer. ha ha, try it on friends of your own sometime.

In any case, take a moment to think about civil rights today, state powers, political behavior, and v for vendetta if you have the time.

Big F**king bombs...

So,

I went with my class today downtown and boy oboy did I want them 2 have fun, but w/ DISCRECTION: kids with wood and nail, explosives, smoke, yelling, plenty o policia... and until we heard the first explosions that made people deaf, i don't think they understood the severity of the 30th anniversiry of the dictorship in Argentina that well...

Well about .02 seconds after the first explosion (about 30 meters from us and a burning effigy) half the students wanted to leave and half :) wanted to stay. I said "rat you own risk!" and cool enough nothing bad happened. Thank dio, and I don't mean Ronny James... In any case we ended up going to El Federal, on account that Des Nivel was full, but we have been there and wanted to take the students to a new place. Cool enough. Everyone had a great time and I was glad so glad to back in Argentina where my blood runs better, have I blogged about the US? I hope not, not much going on worthwhile really. Fo' real. it's ok, but they are plugged in and clearly haven't read the latest Newsweek (update: things look grim for Uncle Samuel)

And us... but what are you going to do, TEFLocal has had a great run and if it gets shut down because of fat cats with millions of more dollars to our hundres well, #1. f**k them, and #2 it was great. I hope it continues.

Chicago Orange Line from the Border

On my 7:00 a.m. flight from SFO to Midway airport in Chicago, I experienced a bizarre landing. Once the plane landed everybody clicked on their cell phones and went to town. It was so bad I almost put my hand up to my head like the international phone/party sign and started talking to myself... Luckily an older guy next to me asked, "what is going on?" I suppose he meant the static status of the line, but I was glad to answer a little louder than normal, "Well, it's clear their is a great disconnect in our society that pushes us to contact the voice in the machine over human beings we just shared a unique tavel experieince with.! " His answer was, " I guess so..." After hearing this, I saw another man wince, one lady let me aside, and then the man whose face winced ear lit up, he flashed smile and started talkling into thin air with a man named, Mortimer..."

After we got off the plane, I made my way to the luggage and took a long seat. There i took a long look, and realized that just about 1 in 10 had a tron cell stuck into their ears. A little bit pretencious, a little bit of warmth, and a whole lot of indication of lackke things to come. E.G. Number 234234 are you there?, your RIM Blackberry is not responding. Yes, ye, yes sir, 234234 here sir, what can you make me do for you? Our privacy is vanishing at an alarming rate, our rights are evaporating even faster.

On the EL ride home to the cushy Northside I noticed an unusual amount of Mexican flags and families on the train. I had to help a few as i realized a number of the passangers didn't speak English, the Quincy stop proved why. There had to be at least 100,000 protester downtown cheering, jeering, and demanding equal rights.

Amoeba Music baby. The podcasting? Oh.. right. Well, I have been busy. I brought my equipment as far as Tiajuna, and while I could've interviewed Luis (see previous post) I di'ent.

The fact is the expat podcast isn't as fun to do in my home country. So, I will return to the cast of characters I met once I am again safely abroad. A hostel in San Diego, a couch in LA, and the floor in San Fransisco... It just gets better.

I have had a fun time, but it has been a whirlwind, I was aboard an aircraft carrier, i went to the pre-oscar show in LA, saw my old house in San Francisco amidst a heavy rain and sliding brasiliain flip-flops.

In fact, i'll level with you, I jhust wrote this post and tried to spell check it, it erased it, so I am now going to make a statement. No more spell check, that's it, why do we rely on it anyway, most great writers don't, they rely on an editor, so please, edit these post all you want without changing the meaning aka spellcheck it if this bothers you.

So, one more week here, tomorrow is wine country to see relatives and little cousin's that got big. I will write again soon with tales of gutterpunks from the Haight and Ben and Jerry's at Ashbury... still going sine I was here, what a long strange trip is has been. toodles.

Mexico ' Hard drugs and hookers in .05 mins...

That's right, i just took the infamous walk across the border into Mexico where the sun is bright and people are helpful... take my cab driver Luis for instance.

Instant friends. Even though i professed that after much tequila it would be possible to take a look t what he had in mind, I told him pretty much no, and that I was just hungry. He faithfully insisted I go to some places off the beatan beaten path, and when I once again told him I was fine and just in mood for tacos as we don{t really have thim in South America, he laughed and said they have plenty of tacos where he wanted to take me, mexican, american, black, white, all ages, I shrugged, said thanks and made sure to give him a hearty North American handshake and take his card. We also had him agree for the both of us that he would drive by a certain corner in one hour and pick me up t take me to his friend{s taco stand.

Sory about the misspellings, this keyboard isn{t like the one{s in Argentina or the States, it{s crazy loco, kind of like my first 5 minutes back in the promised land.

Who called the Cops?

"Fake Diego" is what i wanted to call this place my first few days. The community has what seems to be unlimited money and everything is brand spanking new.

Even the cop cars. I was walking around town and amazed just how conditioned the drivers and pedestrians were to the laws... and then, as I walked into the Hostel where I am staying, a heard a honk and saw a big gas guzzing american made cop car, with a cop standing in front of it.

He asked where I was from twice, and after that he explained that the green light means walk and the hand says don't walk, I was going to try to tell him that to me, the hand sign just reminds me of Help Argentina, but I'm not sure he understood where that was. He let me off, but damn, one week in the country and I have been ID'd like twenty times in five states. Loco.

Gotta go, I have to ready for a party abroad the USS Midway, but before that I am going to watch Rocky 5 again with people who watched it this morning already, i hope they don't spoil the ending for me, I hear that this one is a real american nail biter. chao.

I am currently embedded in the United States.

Many urbanites appear to be powered by cells that give them the appearance of androids, this is new to me, alot of things are, I have been away and this place changes fast.

There was an interactive t.v. in the back of a taxi last night, everyone seems bored by the olympics now and feel silver is sufficient things have changed.
Our shipping ports were to be sold abroad without presidential knowledge. I just heard the one about Dick Cheney.

Jesus H... It is a strange clean place, this Chi-cago.

I must return to the world and scale the fence they are building between Mexico and Berlin, I must walk barefoot on desert earth outside of the walls of fortress America.

Here's a comment Sebastian wrote on his blog about the experience.

I just had the best experience, it was so good infact that it is 12:42 on a college night and I am blogging about this. I was just interviewed by Ryan of the Expat Podcast at http://expatpodcast.blogspot.com and it went really well. Ryan is an English teacher who is currently working in Argentina. We had a very interesting discussion about current affairs in tech, general tech tips, talked about my interests, and of course the FTDC Podcast.

I just had the best time during the interview, relaxed and got into it. What was really nice was the discussion that Ryan and I had after we turned off the recorder courtesy of Gizmo Project. Along with some very nice compliments I recieved some questions about general tech issues etc, things I was happy to talk about.

Overall my experience being interviewed tonight I don't think could have been any better. Thank you Ryan and I cannot wait for the episode to be released, from what I gathered from Ryan on the show, it will be an extra long podcast for the Expat Podcast when my interview airs.

"I Heart NZ" Valentine Special...

When I woke up to find more technical difficulties with my "Gizmo", my blurry eyes most likely looked disappointed, however when the jingle rang and Ghada and Chris from "I heart NZ" were on the other line, my eyes lit up.

They are refreshing to talk to, really refreshing, they are a young couple from different ends of the earth and celebrate their friendship together on their podcast in New Zealand, it's called,

(XPAT Pod 11: Music)

Podcasting is the biggest revolution in open source communication the world has ever seen. Free education, advice, books, languages... anything. This Sunday morning I woke up and took a tech class @ Harvard and learned about W3C, XML markup (the base language for podcasting, it seems a little clearer"open bracket/closebracket"). In fact, I'm listening to it now... just in case you ever thought a class at Harvard was like, I would say the fellows at TwiT would say "tough." Next, I think I will learn world history at Berkeley, and then after class, I will mostly likely go to the state of Illinois to listen to 1212 US presidential candidate and Harvard Alum Senator O'Bama's, podcast. After that... "Enough.", I will of had my fill and will go for a run along the river. As for now I have to concentrate really hard, I think I heard the professor mention something slightly technical.

What it is?
Thanks for tuning in. I have news. 1 to 3 interviews tomorrow. whoa whoa whao! I wont post them all, BUT, I will play them all by next TUES. Promise.

Other news. I want a Buenos Aires DJ, other podcasters from abroad and *hopefully* Jay Kay of Jamiroquai fame. Pipe dream, MAY-B. But, things change, such as the English language starting sentences with but & those who (like me) want to give back to the local community. I have been a big fan, seen them live in Mo-town, and think I am a great candidate to show them a quality time here.

In any case, thanks for the emails Drew, Rob, and Ghada; all of them have been wonderful enough to email me multiple times in that last 24 hours regarding possible shows. Well, Drew and Ghada really, but much respect to Rob he introduced, Gizmo to me and introduced me to podcasting in the last 48 hours. Very cool folk.
But, but, but, I would LOVE to interview Jay of Jjams. I have turned hundreds if not thousands of people on to the band since their first album, a deadhead actually turned me on to them. In any case, I have been with them through up's and downs (not everything we do is gold) and would love to have Jay on as a guest in my town when he visits Buenos Aires in a few weeks.

We'll see. I'll keep you posted... and for those that really don't dig their sounds please do not hold it against me, I'm a fan and I stand my ground.

Superball-er: Diego Armando Maradona

First off, shut up. I am not a sports fan, but I respect, sport... thumb wrestling, american gladiators, and believe it or not THAT is not all...
The Most Valuable Player is an interesting concept in team sports. I don't think I recall any Football MVP's aside from Desmond Howard and most recently Heinz Ward. After the game I went to ESPN and Sports Illustrated to read "best game ever" or "worst game ever", that sort of tabloid writing is prevalent in sports and caters to the fans of both teams. It's hard to qualify an entire game as "the best", however some games do have their best moment, and when the impossible happens, those moments really do become some of the most memorable, or "best" moments in sports.

Do you know who is considered the best football player of all time? No, not Jim Brown, it's a man shorter than him, but even bigger in stature, it is of course Diego Armando Maradona.

While the argument can be made that "Pele" PelÃ©. Edson Arantes Do Nascimento of Atari soccer and Brazilian fame was better, I would disagree.

Maradona is credited with have the most amazing goal in football, aptly named the hand of god
So while this quarterfinal championship wasn't the best game ever, it did hold the most outrageous moment... When 5'4 Diego jumped over a 6'1 goalkeeper and punched a ball into the goal only to have the score count even though it was illegal. This man did what ever he could to win, if you look at competitors as warriors your respect shouldn't lessen, but solidify your respect knowing the brash style of play that one person is capable of. Maradona brought glory to Latin America, Spain, Italy, and infamy in England. VIDEO OF HAND OF GOD.

Ex Pat brushes up Superbowl XL

If you are a sulking Seahawks fan you will enjoy taking jabs at the NFL's longest tenured coach here It's fun! (we don't condone anything but a little fun here, congrats on the victory Steelers!)

The game is over, 21-10, Steelers with less points than I predicted, yet the same result.
This blog is an open forum where anybody can post anything worthwhile and a place to find answers about life abroad, and about yourself.

I recently posted my 10th show and I think it went well. I have had a few readers ask if I could post the transcript of Spanish in English, perhaps someday, but I work too much to go back and edit that right now, I have moved on.

So, who watched the Superfiesta last night 'eh? I was out buying school supplies at Carrefore until halftime, where I clicked on nfl dot com to see the the game had already started.

I headed over to an ex-pat sports bar that I had never gone to before, Remembering the Alamo. I had a similar experience there as I did with the Kilkenny, it was crazy full of really loud drunk men and women yelling things like, "Hola cervsa for da pittburgh piratezzz!!!" The Pirates, of course, aren't a football team, and weren't even playing. I digress, I had a decent time, but remember why I disliked sports bars, they seem to be mostly about work our regimes and listening to people talking about the drinks they are having at that particular moment, i.e "Now this beer IS GOOD BRO!, I had one of these microbrews before them were cool." Sorry Charlie, a good beer is good beer, when the Chinese invented it, they did it to make people happy, not to bring us down with your cool story. Other storied examples are where the punchline of an epic tale serves the story, because it fits in the tale at that perfect moment "... guess what guy...I was drunk!" For instance, "Dude I got so drunk that.. ha ha." Sorry about the drunken banter, but it was really incredibly obnoxious I also saw a 70 year early old Joe Gibbs look alike there who flauntingly thought it was OK to grope a waitress just because she needed to get past him and he knew the word, mujero- which has a pretty funny incorrect translation, "sick bastard," I thought to myself. The waitress was visibly upset and the 200 kilo bartender seemed about as moved from her concerns and he was moved when we all witnessed Rothlisberger's interception. Not at all.

It was great watching that pass from the running back to Ward, though. Gotta love Ward, he did everything in that second half. It looked like the guy with the Santana hair did a lot too what was his name? I was rooting for the Seahawks, who did worse than I thought (see previous post), but Hasselbeck got some bad calls, and the receivers weren't paying at the same level, I think the Pack couldn't taken them that game too.

Well, I will post another show of ultra-fly music tomorrow... "That's right I said it."

Holmgren vs. Popeye...The Super Bowl Abroad

This post is regarding the Superbowl, the biggest non-international event on earth. That's right, it is not even a blip on the ole' globe. Football is not very popular abroad, unless of course you are talking about Soccer. Which internationals call "Football", even in England and just everywhere else in the world. However, sometimes it's known as Footy too, but not to be confused with footsie... That is for another post.

Professional Football and Life changing experiences.

Being that I was born on the third coast between Chicago and Green Bay, I naturally am a football americano fan, follow the game, and even have my own end zone dance.

So I feel it's right to make a prediction, first off, I think the Steelers are going to win. Have you seen the jaw on that coach, what is his name? Pittsburgh is backed by Big Ben, Bettis, and other people that seem to be good enough to give them a good record for the last few years.

The Seattle Seahawks are my favorite however, and I want them to win. The reason is of course, they are the surrogate Packers. Same coach, same field general, what more do you need Beebe? Bono? or #92. the late, great, Reggie White?

My predicted score is below...

Besides, I think the Seahawks are due, I have been to Seattle, have seen Nirvana live, and love North-West culture and people. A Hawks win would really take me back to those days of Sub-pop records and deciding to start following football THE day that MVP Brett something publicly announced his Vicodin addiction. I thought to myself, "What a strong individual, I suppose since I am out of high school and am going to be working in a factory making snowmobile parts, I will have to have something to do, the Packers are it." So instead of finding out old and new record on Sundays, concerts, "raves", or trying to get BandBoo back together... I thought," I'm going to become a bone fide Green Bay Packer fan." And still am. Not many people except my closest friends understood my transformation. I went from a fella not knowing who was on the team, to a die-hard fan who claimed from game 1, "This is our year." Many friends, and those in my social circles weren't on the team bus at that point, would think I was joking about my authentic fevor for this: sports team("Football?, I thought you were cool, do you have a cigarette? "I quit. There are much bigger things happening now.") I religiously began following the Packers stats in the paper (Tivo and broadband weren't available, Google didn't exist, and thank heavens no fantasy football didn't either.... just good old fashion work pools, T.V. and grid iron football), their wins, and my finding out who was on this new found team of mine. "I will like the Packers and they will please me with many wins, and they are "Going all the way". They did.

So luckily for me, the harsh winters spent in the Midwest were usually bearable by consecutive "Super Sundays" beating the Bears and 49ers over and over as payoffs from the pummeling they gave the Packers of my earlier years. Every win felt like the Superbowl for a few years there, "The Pack" would kick teams all over the place. There are a few things that make them the embodiment of football in my opinion.

The Superbowl trophy is named after the most famous coach in title town
#55 Ray Nitschke, Starr, Hourning, Majik, Longwell, Butler, Holmgren, The receiving corp,& #4 Favre.

The Packers were never A+ dominant, it has always been a fight and has made them better to watch. Favre himself isn't the 400 yards a game QB that newly inducted HOF Warren Moon was, or Dorsey Levens or Green were never close to a Barry Sanders (who my circle of friends pretty much agree should have received his MVP solo that last year, they both had incredible seasons however)

Well, if you retire Favre, and the Packers as I have known them come to and end. I will be both happy and sad: Thanks for that first TD pass to Rison in our last Super Bowl win, thanks for the momentum with the late great Minister of Defense Reggie White and that game where you threw for a bunch of touchdowns and 399 yard in the first half the day after your father died, and thanks for continuing to play after all the tragedies that have hit you and we have heard about. Thanks for winning that Superbowl in New Orleans and trying to get back to the big game ever since. It's nice to know that if you go, on the last day of your professional career you still had it in you to pick up an injurey addled and inexperience team to beat a team that made it to the Superbowl.

So my biggest hope is that, I hope Favre's mentor and his understudy Hasselback, both bring glory to a new place that needs it, and perhaps the winters in Seattle will be a little more bearable, and the city of Detroit will enjoy revitalization after the game is over. I feel it ironic that Ford Field can put on a game and that compares to what they did in the seventies and continue to do now, cut jobs and sponsor sporting events. Anyway, this post is for the love of the game and nothing more.

Yeah the title is right, but I would say sightly... misleading. You see it's hot, as in fresh of the presses, BUT it didn't go as planned, so it's not really all that and i will have to try again. We had audio problems, so I will have set up another interview and that is that. Here is a link to today's guest, Marisol Otero. It's kind of incredible, I didn't know she was THAT popular. I guess I should turn on my local radio a little more and podcast a little less.

Thanks for checking out the Expat Podcast Show. We were featured in Yahoo News! and Google News! today so that is pretty exciting. We also took the liberty to email the show to Malcolm Gladwell whom we are going to see speak in a few weeks. Perhaps we will have him on the show. If not, that is fine, we are not impressed by celebrities, but his writing sure makes you think!

Well, just in case some of our readers and listeners would like to hear some celebrities, we are releasing a story about Emenim's early days later today and interviewing local singing sensation Marisol, she is a student of mine whom has toured Europe and has had her own reality show in Argentina and now a podcast.
